JESTERS FIGHT BACK TO EARN POINT VERSUS SOUTHERN STATES

New Orleans, LA. The New Orleans Jesters fought back to earn a point on Saturday night at Pan American Stadium with a 1-1 tie versus Southern States SC.  Forward Sheldon Green scored the lone Jesters goal in the 49th minute, his team-leading sixth of the season.

With the tie the Jesters (3-2-5) move up into a tie for third position in the NPSL Gulf Coast standings.

Southern States started the game on the front foot and it was the Jesters who were forced to defend in the early going.  Goalkeeper Qamil Dervishaj was superb throughout the match and made an excellent double save in the 12th minute to deny SSSC.

Five minutes later he was unable to prevent the go-ahead goal after the Jesters conceded a free kick on the right side.  Midfielder Danny Reynolds whipped a cross in that was volleyed home by midfiekder Liam Bennett

New Orleans responded with two close chances.  Mason Walsh fired a shot wide of the target in the 19th minute and then Sheldon Green blasted wide after dribbling past his defender in the 22nd minute

The best chance of the half for the Jesters fell to striker Amin Zahhar on the half hour mark but his heavy shot from twenty yards out cannoned back off the left upright.

New Orleans kept the pressure up and the hard work paid off in the 49th minute as winger Jowayne Laidley picked out Green on the left side.  Green’s pace took him past the last defender then he coolly cut inside the goalkeeper before slotting home.
