‘The Academy’ had teams at three different tournament locations over this Labor Day weekend. The 2001 and 2003 teams were in Marietta, Georgia with the 2005’s in Atlanta and 2007’s in Jackson, MS.

This was the first time ‘The Academy’ boys had played at three different tournament locations in one weekend and shows the continued growth and advancement of Southern States Soccer as a whole. Pictured below are 2005 tournament winning team with coach Romar Smith and the 2007 tournament winning team with coach Tony Marriel.

‘The Academy’ 2007 team were in Jackson, Mississippi for the IFC tournament and came away with the Championship title. Coach Tony Marriel and his players were on top form and rewarded for their hard work and focus in practices.

‘The Academy’ 2005 won their division of the Atlanta Publix Cup with a 1-0 final victory. This team continues to improve and develop. Congratulations go to coach Romar Smith who had total control of the team for the entire weekend. Coach Smith is proving to be another excellent resource on the SSS coaching staff.

The 2003 team beat the MLS Atlanta United DA team by 4-3 to move onto the semi-final game in Marietta, GA but could not overcome a stronger more physical 2002 team from South Carolina. The 2001 team won two and lost one of their three group games but it was not enough to advance.
