Frisco, Tx –  The Academy took two boys teams to Frisco, Texas for the FC Dallas Showcase. The boys also got the opportunity to see an MLS game as the home team FC Dallas took on Montreal at Toyota Park. The visitors led 2-0 but Dallas fought back to tie the game 2-2 with late second-half goals.

At the tournament our 2002/03 beat FC Dallas 3-0 in the opening game but found the Kansas City Rush and Borussia Dortmund a little too strong going down to close defeats. It was the team’s first tournament of the new year following the end of the high school soccer season in Mississippi and without the Alabama based boys who have just begun high school.

The 2004/05 team made up of primarily younger players found themselves in a very difficult group including Dortmund and the Dallas Texans. Simon Thames of our 2004/05 team scored a great free-kick past the Dortmund goalkeeper. You can catch the video on our Facebook Page by clicking this link. Coach Carl Reynolds was upbeat noting, “The reason we come to these tournaments is to play better competition and to match ourselves with strong club teams. Losing is just as much a part of the learning process as winning. We learn more about ourselves in defeat than in victory”.
